Xiaomi has now launched its flagship Mi 10 5G in India with almost all the features one would demand in a premium smartphone. However, it costs a whopping INR 50,000, offering direct competition to the popular OnePlus 8 Pro. So, which one’s a better buy of the duo? Let’s find out the same in our Mi 10 5G vs OnePlus 8 Pro comparison.
Xiaomi Mi 10 5G vs OnePlus 8 Pro Comparison
The Mi 10 and OnePlus 8 Pro bear premium designs having a glass back at the rear, followed by curved displays with punch-hole upfront. The OnePlus 8 Pro has a vertically-aligned camera module placed in the center, much like its predecessor. Whereas, the Mi 10 gets it to the top left corner.
While the two don’t have any extra-ordinary differences in terms of design, the OnePlus does get an advantage with its IP68 rating. In comparison, Xiaomi has resorted to basic P2i splash resistance.
OnePlus 8 Pro is also the taller, slimmer and lighter at 165.3×74.35×8.5mm with a weight of 199g, compared to the latter’s 162.6×74.8×8.96mm chassis and 208g weight. That said, both phones support wireless charging and come with an in-display fingerprint scanner.
The Mi 10 is equipped with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. It supports HDR10+, 90Hz refresh rate, and a maximum brightness of 800 nits.
The OnePlus 8 Pro, on the other hand, gets a 6.78-inch Fluid AMOLED display with a Quad HD+ resolution of 3168 x 1440 pixels. It gets a higher 120Hz refresh rate, followed by HDR 10+ support and a peak brightness of 1,444 nits.
Both the panels get in-display fingerprint scanners and are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Nevertheless, the screen on OnePlus 8 Pro is not only sharper but also smoother and brighter compared to the one on Mi 10.
The two phones are evenly matched when it comes to performance with the top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, coupled with support for 5G. Both of them offer up to 12GB of LPPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of high-speed UFS 3.0 storage.
The Mi 10 uses the heavily-skinned MIUI 11 with tons of customization options. Whereas, the OnePlus 8 Pro runs Oxygen OS 10.5.x, which offers a much cleaner, close to stock Android experience with all necessary features on offer. Both run Android 10 out-of-the-box.
The Mi 10 features a quad-camera setup at the back, starring a 108MP primary camera with 0.8μm pixels, f/1.69 aperture, and OIS. Furthermore, there’s a 13MP 123° ultra-wide-angle shooter, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. The camera can record 8k at 30fps, 4k at 60fps, and 960fps slo-mo at 720p.
The OnePlus 8 Pro gets a 48MP Sony IMX689 sensor as the primary shooter with f/1.78 aperture, OIS + EIS, accompanied by a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with 119.7° ultra-wide lens, an 8MP telephoto sensor with 3x hybrid zoom and OIS. There’s also a 5MP color filter camera. The phone supports up to 4k at 60fps and 480fps slow-mo at 720p.
The Mi 10 bears a 20MP front-facing camera while the OP 8 Pro houses a 16MP selfie-shooter in the punch-hole.
Battery & Charging
The Xiaomi Mi 10 houses a 4,780mAh battery with support for 10W Reverse Wireless Charging. In comparison, the OnePlus 8 Pro gets a tad smaller 4,510mAh cell with slower 3W Reverse Wireless Charging. Nonetheless, both phones excel equally in the charging department with 30W Fast Wired Charging as well as 30W Wireless Charging.
The Mi 10 price in India starts at Rs. 49,999 for the base model with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage while the 8/256GB version is priced at Rs. 54,999. On the other side, the OnePlus 8 Pro costs Rs. 54,999 for the 8/128GB model and Rs. 59,999 for the 12/256GB version.
Xiaomi Mi 10 5G vs OnePlus 8 Pro: Final Words
The OnePlus 8 Pro is undoubtedly a superior choice with its better display, software experience, optical zoom, and IP68 rating. It also has an added advantage of the company’s merit in the premium segment.
In contrast, Xiaomi has had an almost negligible presence in the premium smartphone share in India. Counting that in, the phone isn’t priced as well as it should’ve been. In the end, while it boils down to one’s priorities and gravity for brand value, our pick would be the OnePlus 8 Pro.
