Motorola has just unveiled the Moto G8, a device we had expected to see showcased at the cancelled MWC 2020 event. Here’s everything you need to know.
Motorola has stealthily unveiled the next iteration of its hugely popular G line in the form the Moto G8. Will this end up being as good as some of the G devices that have gone before?
Consistently being one of the best budget phones around, the Moto G8 once again aims to offer impressive features without forcing you to break to the bank to get them.
As with most phones, the focus seems to be the camera. Motorola is calling this an AI camera and it consists of a ‘fast-focussing’ 16-megapixel main camera, an ultra wide and a Macro Vision camera. The latter has become something of a staple of the Motorola line, offering 5x zoom to let you get really close up to your subject.
Inside the Moto G8 you’ll find a 4000mAh battery that Motorola claims should last for 40 hours, 4GB RAM and Qualcomm’s mid-tier, but still capable, 665 octa-core processor. 64GB of storage comes as standard, with microSD expandability offering the option of pushing that to 512GB.
We’ve yet to properly put the G8 through its paces, however those internals should provide strong performance for the majority of use cases.
Around the front of the phone, there’s a 6.4-inch HD+ Max Vision display that is surrounded by fairly minimal bezels. You’ll find the front camera housed inside the small cutout. While the screen specs seem fine, the slightly low resolution might be an issue for those who want a phone for lots of media streaming. We guess Motorola is aiming the previously announced Moto G8 Plus at that market.
Other features include a fingerprint sensor on the rear, an array of gaming-specific software touches and a 10w charger in the box.
The Moto G8 will be available starting today (March 5) in Brazil, with other territories getting it in the coming weeks. Pricing has yet to be fully revealed, however we’d guess it’ll sit around the £200 mark.
