If you’re not yet familiar with #ShareTheMicNow, it’s time to give the campaign a follow. It was started by four amazing people—Bozoma Saint John (the global chief marketing officer at Netflix), Luvvie Ajayi Jones (bestselling author of I’m Judging You), Glennon Doyle (author of Untamed), and Stacey Bendet (founder of Alice + Olivia)—in order to amplify the voices of Black women and share the inspiring ways they’re catalyzing change.
During a campaign, Black women’s voices are amplified on the social media platforms of white women. For the initial kick-off, there were plenty of names you’ll recognize, including Latham Thomas, Rachel Cargle, Angelica Ross, Julia Roberts, Kourtney Kardashian, and Elizabeth Warren. Since then, the campaign has expanded into other spaces, and it’s taking on the yoga community next.
Sisters of Yoga just announced the Yoga Edition of #ShareTheMicNow will take place from 7/17 to 7/19. During that time, the wellness collective—which has been increasing inclusivity in the wellness space for years—will be pairing Black yogis and white yogis together to combat the longtime lack of diversity within the yoga community. Just like in previous campaigns, Black yogi’s voices will be amplified on the Instagram accounts of the white yogis they’re paired with.
“Today more than ever, it’s important to cultivate true allyships committed to centering and amplifying Black voices that have often been ignored and disregarded,” says Tie Simpson, founder and chief executive officer of Sisters of Yoga. “It’s my hope that this initiative will help bring awareness and propel the necessary conversations forward to truly increase the representation, inclusivity, and diversity in the yoga and wellness space.”

According to Phyllicia Bonanno, co-founder and chief marketing officer of Sisters of Yoga, this campaign will also help people look at the yoga community with a new lens and perspective, as they’ll be hearing from yogis they may not have been exposed to otherwise. “Many of the allies’ followers and students follow those that are the majority in the wellness field, which tends to be mostly other white yogis,” she says. “This campaign will open up other communities to new experiences filled with learning, acceptance, and diversity. The only way we can truly move forward is together.”
There are 11 pairings—and 22 yogis—being featured throughout the three-day campaign. One of those participants is Chocolako Agburu, MPH, MBA, who’s paired with Adell Bridges. “It’s an opportunity to leave an indelible legacy mark. There’s a spotlight of awareness shining ever so brightly on the skewed scales of injustice, inequality, and homogenous behavioral patterns, which means we’re all feeling the intensity of reformation’s pulse,” she says. “The unified spark of transformation is being lit within the yoga and wellness industry, and I couldn’t be more proud to be a leading contributor to a healing way forward.”
