There is a lot of information circulating about Coronavirus across social media and through the messenger apps. This information also includes some myths about the virus and COVID-19, the decease caused by it. In such scenarios, the Indian government through its ‘PIB Fact Check’ twitter handle, has posted some myth busters of the Coronavirus that are courtesy of WHO.
High Temperatures DO NOT Kill Coronavirus
There is a myth around Coronavirus that believe that it can be killed in high temperature, but it is NOT true at all. You can still catch the COVID-19, no matter you stand in the sun or temperature higher than 25°C. To be noted, there are already coronavirus cases in countries with hot weather.
5G Networks DO NOT spread COVID-19
There is another myth circulating that 5G caused the corona outbreak, which is also NOT true. A Virus cannot travel on a radio wave or mobile network. To be noted here that Corona is spreading in those countries as well that do not have 5G networks.
You should know COVID-19 spreads through air droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or even speaks. The infection can also be spread by touching eyes, mouth, or nose after contacting a contaminated surface.
Coronavirus Infection DOES NOT Last For a Lifetime
There is a myth among people that one cannot be fully recovered from COVID-19 as the virus remains in the body for a lifetime, which is again NOT true. Most people infected by coronavirus are recovered and the virus is also eliminated from their bodies.
If you or someone you know has symptoms like cough, fever, and difficulty in breathing, seek medical care immediately, and call your health facility or corona helpline number by telephone first. Do to fear as most patients recover from this decease by supportive care.
Antibiotics CANNOT Cure COVID19
Antibiotics are NOT the cure for COVID-19 as they work do not work only against bacteria and not viruses. The new novel coronavirus or 2019-nCoV is a virus and, thus antibiotics can not be used as its prevention or treatment.
Hand Dryers CANNOT Kill CoronaVirus
Please note that hand dryers cannot kill the new novel coronavirus. So, in order to protect yourself against the coronavirus, you should wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-based sanitizer. Once you clean your hands, you can use a hand dryer or paper towels to dry them.
Pneumonia vaccine is NOT Effective in Treating COVID-19
The vaccine against pneumonia or Haemophilus influenza type B (Hib) vaccine, do not prevent COVID-19. These cannot protect against the novel coronavirus as it is a new virus and needs its own vaccine. Many research labs and institutions across the globe are already trying to develop a vaccine against this new coronavirus.
UV Disinfection Lamp CANNOT be Used to Sterilize Hands
There is this myth among people that UV lamps can kill coronavirus. This is NOT true. So, UV disinfection lamps should not be used to sterilize hands or other areas of skin. You should know that UV radiation can be harmful to your skin and it can cause skin irritation.
These were a few myths that most people start to belive once they hear it from somebody or read it somewhere like a WhatsApp forwarded message. We suggest you should not believe anything related to this decease until it comes from an authentic source.
You should use WhatsApp Helpline by WHO and the Indian Government for authentic information on Coronavirus.
